History of Kanniyakumari
Since in the 6th century Sangam Era of Dravidian history of Kanniyakumari city. There are mentions of the Land’s End in the records Marco Polo, and Ptolemy. After the goddess Kanya Devi the city was named Kanniyakumari or the Virgin Goddess in local Mythology.
According to legends, Kanya Devi was expected to get married Shiva but was left helpless on the beach of this land, When Shiva was failed to show up on the wedding day. She waited for ever turning everything was stone. This is also called as pebbies on the beaches are the rice and uncooked grains were supposed to serve the wedding and the place eventually turned into scared site, to worship the goddess and look for her blessing for a happy married life.
